DSPLs in your area

You have probably heard the term DSPL - just another acronym? And what is it?

DSPL -Delivery Special Provision Locally,  is a Hertfordshire-wide partnership approach,  where parents, carers, staff in early years settings and schools, further education colleges, local authority officers and representatives from other agencies, work together as part of an Area Group (DSPL group) , to ensure that there is a range of provision and support services available in their local community that :

  • Meets the needs of children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), aged 0-25, as close to home as possible.
  • Improves outcomes for wellbeing and attainment
  • Widens choice for children and parers/carers
  • removes barriers to learning
  • uses resources effectively

Nine of the groups exist across the county to respond to local need and provide a range of support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. Each group is numbered for the area they cover, e.g. DSPL 1.

The nine different DSPL groups are established as follows:

DSPL 1 - Hitchin, Letchworth, Baldock and Royston

DSPL 2 - Stevenage

DSPL 3 - Bishop’s Stortford, Sawbridgeworth, Buntingford, Watton-at-Stone, Hertford and Ware

DSPL 4 - Hoddesdon, Broxbourne and Cheshunt

DSPL 5 - Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield (excluding south Hatfield villages)

DSPL 6 - Potters Bar (including south Hatfield villages) and Borehamwood

DSPL 7 - Harpenden and St Albans

DSPL 8 - Berkhamsted, Tring, Hemel Hempstead and Kings Langley

DSPL 9 - Watford, Three Rivers, Bushey and Radlett.

Make sure you talk to yours if you need support or advice about a child or young person with special needs or to find out what events are happening in your area.
